Collision and Broadcast Domain
Before you start
Introduction to Collision and Broadcast domains
Collision Domain
Collisions domain are the part of the network where collisions can occur between network packets or traffic. Collisions domain are occur due to , two or more devices which are in same network segment send data at same time. So if same data are send in same network segment collision can occur. If any time a collision are occur, devices must have to send the packets again.
Note: All ports of a hub are in same collision domain, and each port of switch and bridge are in different collision domain. To sense a media is free to send traffic we use CSMA/CD technique.
Broadcast Domain
Broadcast domain is a network domain where a broadcast packet, generated by one or more devices, can be forward. A broadcast domain contain all the devices which are at layer 2 or below (OSI Model), and forward broadcast packets or traffic.
Note: A layer 3 device ( Router , Firewall ), breaks the broadcast domain.
